Temporary, or nonimmigrant visas, allow individuals to enter the United States to work, study, for business, tourism, or medical treatment on a temporary basis. For most nonimmigrant visas, visa holders must provide evidence of "non-immigrant intent" – that they maintain a foreign residence that they have no intention of abandoning and that they do not intend to immigrate to the United States. Most of the available types of visas are detailed further under this category.
